The nice thing about shopping in Bangkok is that while malls and department stores may close in the evening, there are still many night markets that stay open till midnight. While cuisine, culture and beaches remain three of the top attractions for tourists, the idea of being able to shop at countless places for a whole lot of items even after sunset, and enjoying huge discounts at that, makes the city an ideal stopover even for just a few days

Service with a smile is always the norm here. From antiques to electronics and clothes to souvenirs, there will always be one shop or stall that will have something you fancy.

Start your journey at the Pathumwan intersection where Siam Square and MBK compete for customers.

At night when the offices have closed, enterprising merchants quickly put up their stalls near the BTS escalator ( Soi 3-5 ). The area around it is suddenly transformed into a bazaar. Most of them sell T-shirts, pants, skirts, dresses, hats, belts imitation designer items, shoes, bags, necklaces, earrings and other fashion accessories, A few sell used items.

Prices are incredibly low, ranging from Bt20 to about Bt400. Customers are usually students patiently looking for the best deal and the ultimate bargain. Since these stalls are only open for two hours ( 9-11 p.m.), their owners are keen to sell as much as they can

Afterwards, move on to another night market in the area, the one organized by MBK (BTS National Stadium) that is open from 4 -10 p.m. every Friday. All sellers are students or recent graduates. Items on sale include handicrafts, textiles, memorabilia and other collectibles, T-shirts, knitted wear , postcards, paintings, decorative items, artificial flowers and fashion accessories.
